Thuy-Hai Nguyen

PhD Researcher

Research activity:

Biography:

Thuy-Hai Nguyen received the Master’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Mons (Belgium) in 2020 as well as a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from ISAE-SUPAERO (France) in the T.I.M.E. double degree framework. She is currently a PhD student with the Power Systems & Market Research Group, Department of Electrical Power Engineering Unit, University of Mons. Her research interests include offshore wind generation modelling as well as adequacy studies and data analytics.

The research is realized in the framework of the PhairywinD project, founded by the federal Energy Transition Fund. Coordinated by the University of Ghent, the project combines the expertise of 9 PhD students from Belgian Universities to build a structural academic community addressing Belgian Offshore Wind Energy challenges. In this project, the main focus of the ongoing PhD research is to improve the way offshore wind generation is modelled in the framework of adequacy studies. This involves Machine Learning techniques and aerodynamic concepts for fast and accurate modelling of power production in Monte-Carlo simulations, considering all complex phenomena involved in offshore wind generation.
