Project summary:
The energy transition requires a balanced approach that combines flexibility, security of supply, and cost reduction within the energy system. In this context, the SuGAR project explores the critical role of sufficiency as a lever to achieve these goals. Concrete sufficiency measures in the residential and transport sectors will be defined through workshops and a survey. The impacts of these measures will then be modeled using the TIMES modelling to assess their contributions to a carbon-neutral energy
system by 2050, with a focus on minimizing overall system costs. The project will also evaluate the impacts of these measures on the flexibility of the transmission grid and the reduction of additional infrastructure needs. Ultimately, the project will deliver concrete policy recommendations to activate these sufficiency solutions, aiming to strengthen grid resilience, reduce system costs, and enhance energy security while meeting climate ambitions.
