réunion d'affaires

Our unit interacts and collaborates with industrials partners for many years in the context of students' projects and of services related with our measurement capabilities.

In which field of collaboration are you interested in ?

Students' projects

EPEU offers the opportunities for industries and R&D companies to collaborate through student’s projects (mainly first year master’s project and master’s degree final project) supervised by academics. It leads to a win-win situation as the student is confronted to an actual industrial challenge and as the collaborators take profit, free of charge, from innovative approaches and from the expertise of the academic supervision of the work.

Measurement capabilities & Services

The Unit is fully equipped with modern state-of-art testing instruments and data acquisition platforms (Labview, dSPACE) to undertake standard measurements on most electrical equipments, as well as with specific simulation and calculation softwares (PSIM, Comsol Multiphysics, Neplan, etc.).  It hosts also a High-Voltage laboratory dedicated to teaching and industrial testing and measurement (breakdown voltage, leakage current, etc.).

For any service, please feel free to ask for a quote by contacting our staff.

High-Voltage Laboratory

Click here for a virtual tour of our HV lab !

The high voltage testing laboratory of UMONS consists of one main hall and a separate smaller laboratory. It is dedicated to teaching and industrial testing and measurement (breakdown voltage, leakage current, etc.).

In the main hall the equipment includes:

  • an ac generator (1 MV cascaded transformer/2 units)

  • an impulse generator (Marx generator) 12-stage, 2.25 MV, 27.5 kJ

  • a vertical sphere gap (diameter 1.5 m)

  • resistive and capacitive dividers

  • analog and digital oscilloscopes

  • an artificial rain equipment

In the separate laboratory, smaller tests can be realized by means of:

  • a modular HV kit (up to 150 kV ac, 75 kV dc and lightning impulse)

  • a RRoss divider (150 kV ac/dc, 280 kV peak)

  • a LeCroy oscilloscope

  • a portable 35 kV HV dc generator

Non-destructive tests are also possible mainly for dielectric loss and capacitance measurement (Schering bridge) and for resistivity measurement (measuring cell).

Other equipments

Electric and magnetic fields strength measurements can be conducted thanks to:

  • a meter from EMFields (AC 10 Hz-2.1 kHz, up to 19.99 µT and 1999 V/m)

  • a Hirst GM08 Gaussmeter with a Hall probe (DC, AC 15 Hz-10 kHz, up to 3 T)

Other measuring and test equipment includes (non-exhaustive):

  • a high-precision power analyzer LEM Norma 4000

  • a LeCroy  WaveRunner 44Xi scope

  • a precision impedance analyzer Wayne Kerr (20 Hz-10 MHz)

  • voltage/current measurement modules with LEM transducers
    (400 V, 100 A)

  • workstations with data acquisition boards (Labview), as well as ds1104 and ds1105 controller boards from dSPACE
